Inspirational Techniques

Pull Focus

A pull focus shot is a commonly used technique in all films. When this shot is used in thriller films it can be used very effectivaley to reveal something in the film. When something is out of focus and switches into focus or vise versa from one subject to another it creates a sense of obscurity and mystery as when the camera is out of focus it can hide the identity of a person. This type of shot can also tell the audience that something is not clear or not fully explained or some percieve it to present something that the audience need to know for example to show what the character is looking at. This type of shot is very common in all films but particulary used in thriller.

Hand Held

This technique is usually used in the genre thriller. Hand held camera shots are when somebody films with the camera in their hand instead of it being on a steady cam or tri-pod. This technique has greater freedom than a camera that is being mounted, therefore making the film shakier. A shaky camera can portray a sense of danger or unsteadiness. This makes the audience feel on edge because the shot is off instead of steady.

Close Up Shot

Close up shots are used in various different genres of film however, when using this shot in thriller films it can have huge implications on the audience for example ot scare them. The close up shot is mainly used to show facial expressions or to show something in detail to the audience. In our openeing sequence we could use this shot to display some important information to our audience.
